Q. Will the Universal Inkjet Refill System work in my printer?
A. Yes. The Universal Inkjet Refill System uses a specially formulated ink that works in any printer. When a cartridge is first made, the manufacturer filled the cartridge with ink then sealed the filling hole. When refilling, all you are doing is accessing that original filling hole and adding more ink.

Q. Does using Universal Inkjet void my warranty?
A. According to Hewlett PackardĀ®, the use of a refilled print cartridge does not affect the warranty unless failure or damage is attributable to it.* This is typical of all manufacturers' warranties. Keep in mind that the ink does not touch any part of the printer or internal parts other than the cartridge and print head. The ink is applied to the paper as the paper is fed through the printer.

Q. Are the colors the same as the original?
A. For all practical purposes, yes. If there are slight variations in color, they can be adjusted through software. Please read the General Refill Tips for advice on maximizing your refill experience and extending the life of your cartridge.

Q. Will Universal Ink clog my printer head?
A. Universal Ink is refined to 1/6 of a micron, whereas Hewlett Packard ink (for example) is refined to only 1 micron. Please note that allowing your printer to remain idle can cause ink to dry and clog your printer head.

Q. Is the Universal Inkjet Refill System messy?
A. No. The Universal Inkjet Refill System uses a blunt needle injector which allows you to precisely control the filling process. Other refills kits use a squeeze bottle and needle which does not allow for precise control. In the event of an accident, please refill over a protected surface such as a kitchen sink or work bench.

Q. How many refills can I get with the amount of ink supplied in the Universal Inkjet Refill System?
A. That depends on your cartridge capacity. For example, a Hewlett Packard C6657A cartridge can hold 3-5ml of ink (per color) thus giving you 6-10 refills. Please check your instruction manual to determine your cartridge capacity.

Q. How many times can a cartridge be refilled?
A. The answer varies depending on the manufacturer and the model. All inkjet cartridges have a limited life span, and typically a cartridge will last between 3 - 10 refills due to the electronics that control printer jets. Small resistors on the cartridge overheat when the ink runs out, therefore limiting the life of the cartridge. You can extend the life of your cartridge by not letting the ink run out completely before refilling.

Q. Does Universal have inks for the new 6 color systems?
A. Yes. Universal makes Light Cyan and Light Magenta inks which are used by Canon, Epson, HP, and Lexmark to produce better skin tones in photo reproductions.

Q. What can I do if the cartridge print nozzles are clogged?
A. Uneven printing, skipping, or no print may suggest clogged print nozzles. If a cartridge has been left, unused or stored for a long period of time, its print nozzles may become blocked with old dried ink. One method is to allow the print heads to soak in our Cartridge & Print Head Cleaner for an hour, this should help unclog the print nozzles and restore print quality.

Q. What is the shelf life of Universal ink?
A. The shelf life of an unopened bottle is approximately 3 years. Once a bottle has been opened, the shelf life is only about 1 year. In order to achieve this optimal shelf life, the ink should be stored in an airtight container and not exposed to direct sunlight or any type of UV light.
